As a vital cultural cornerstone for the Chinese community in Southern California, the school has ensured that heritage and language are passed down through generations.

The gala also prominently highlighted the lifelong dedication of the school’s President, renowned philanthropist Sally Wong-Avery. Widely regarded as a vital connector within the community, Ms. Wong-Avery has devoted her life to education, literature, and immigrant advocacy. Her grassroots efforts began years ago when she transformed her family restaurant into an informal social service hub, providing essential translation and administrative assistance to new immigrants. She subsequently built a comprehensive support system for the local Chinese American population by co-founding the Chinese Historical Museum and serving as the first female President of the CCBA. A proud alumna of UC San Diego, she has also been a steadfast guardian of academic history, establishing the Natasha Wong Endowment Fund, preserving rare community publications such as Chinese News and We Chinese, and facilitating a major digital archives collaboration between UC San Diego and Cambridge University.
Witnessing this historic milestone, the SDCAA remains deeply inspired by Ms. Wong-Avery’s unwavering commitment to public service. President Zhiming Wang remarked that Ms. Wong-Avery is not only a model for philanthropy but also an inspiration for the legal community. The Association looks forward to continuing its support for educational and cultural initiatives within Southern California, working tirelessly to foster community engagement and protect the rights of the Asian American community.
